After Silent Saturday
I try to imagine that joy they felt, that jump of joy inside them that comes with the question, “Can this be true?” You know how it is when you get good news. You sort of think it’s too good to be true. After being totally deflated, defeated, and dejected—the disciples got the good news and the proof was in the empty grave. He has risen! He is no longer dead; Christ is risen—just as He said!
God chose a woman to be the first preacher of the Good News. Eve was deceived, but Mary brought the truth.
They totally failed Jesus, and they knew it. And true to Peter’s nature, he sealed that failure three times, but the immediate message back to the disciples, and Peter, in Mark 16:7 was this:
“Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died.”
Jesus forgives completely and even made specific mention of Peter releasing all of them from their guilt and shame. He took it all away; He nailed it to the cross.
Another of many messages here is the fact that Jesus keeps His word. No matter how dark it looks, no matter how utterly hopeless it seems, and no matter even if the dream is dead—He has a plan for us and He keeps his word. Just like He said.
