Portals to Heaven

I just want to lay down in front of His door so that when He comes out, He’ll have to trip over me. That’s what I’ve decided during holy week.

Would it be better to say portals from heaven to earth? There is probably a difference; I’m not sure if it makes any difference though. Throughout the Bible we get some glimpses of some sort of special openings.

Jacob found a gate to heaven:

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!”  But he was also afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God, the very gateway to heaven!” Genesis 28:16, 17

Isaiah saw the very throne room of God and there was a door in his description:

And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.

A couple of passages in Psalms also add to this image of a door or portal:

Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Psalm 24:7

Yet He had commanded the clouds above, And opened the doors of heaven…Psalm 78:23

Jesus said in John 1:51 And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”

There are lots of doors, gates, windows, and similar type passages in the Bible that indicate a passing of the supernatural place of heaven into the natural place of earth. Many places in the Bibles show where people have experienced this blessing of an opening to heaven creating an experience on earth. I want that.

Proverbs 8:34 promises me, “Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors."

Lord, I’m lying down at your door; you’ll have to trip over me when you come out. I hope you do.
