Repeating Miracles
The Lord is taking me through a deeper revelation of the power of testimony. A testimony is the personal witness of a life-changing intervention of the Lord, and what I’m learning now is that the power of the actual event or miracle can be repeated through testimony.
The word testimony means to do again. When testimony is given of a miracle, the power to repeat that miracle exists and others in need can receive through the testimony of the original miracle. Isn’t that basically how we get saved? The miracle of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus has been received by the power of testimony over the ages and we further share the testimony of our own salvation to others.
The first church we pastured had already a strong culture of testimony. At least monthly, and sometimes every Sunday night, there would be almost a full house testimony where it seemed everyone shared a brief story or they described how the Lord blessed them that week. These times were always encouraging, faith-inspiring, and seemed to increase capacity in others for believing God for more supernatural interventions.
Probably the most famous scripture verse about testimony is Revelation 12:11 which says, “And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.” The two parts that bring total victory are the salvation experience through the blood of Jesus which makes us children of God, and the word of our testimony which brings us victory in our daily lives through experience and repeating that experience through testimony.
Now, here is where we get all supernatural about testimony. If we can glimpse into the power of testimony, we’ll be able to learn how to wield a powerful tool in our supernatural arsenal with which the Lord has equipped us. Revelation 19:10 tells us that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Although it’s recorded in the book of Revelation, it isn’t confined to the Book of Revelation. When a person testifies of a miracle in his or her life, there is a supernatural release of power, or prophecy, where that particular miracle can be repeated in others. How many times have you heard of someone receiving healing from just hearing the testimony of someone who was healed? That’s the example of repeating miracles through the power of testimony. The power of this carries through video and voice recordings as well. We should not take testimony lightly.
Do you remember what “the testimony” was in the old covenant? The tablets of the Ten Commandments were placed in the Ark, and they were called the testimony along with Aaron’s rod that budded and a jar of manna. These items are symbolic of the new covenant provision of the written testimony, miracles, and God’s provision. All of these are to be repeated through testimony. As you know, following Christ’s redemptive work on the cross, our bodies are now the temple of God, and Holy Spirit resides in us and now the testimony is that which we release from our mouths—the written testimony is now living, the miracle working power, and divine provision are part of the testimony to be repeated. This is where the spirit of prophecy comes in.
Failure to give testimony can stop repeating miracles and cause us to turn back for failure to remember God’s works. Could this be why so many Christians have unproductive lives? Look at what happened to the children of Ephraim when they forgot God’s works and wonders and failed to give testimony in Psalm 78:9-56. Testimony affects generations.
In Deuteronomy 6, God lays out many great promises, but conditions them upon keeping His commandments, testimonies and statutes. For New Testament Christians, this translates to doing what God says, following the principles of God’s nature on how to live life, and keeping the testimony is keeping the spoken or written record and maintaining alive what God has done for others. In other words, we should lustily pursue God and part of that pursuance is keeping the miracle and its repeating power alive through testimony.
The power of the testimony should be examined and then activated by every one of us. Testimony releases a miracle which others can then receive and testimony creates witness further affirming and sealing that miracle. Now, that’s good stuff, and anyone can do this!
