What do kings and priests do?
To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Revelation 1:5-6
The Bible says we are king and priests. What do kings and priests do? Think about that for a while. What did the priests do in the first covenant? That being a model, we know they served the people of Israel, but they also served God the Father. Kings were to fulfill His will and plan for not only their own lives, but the lives they would affect through their work.
I think sometimes we get all excited about being kings and priests because of the titles and the esteem associated with those named roles. But seriously, can you see a huge responsibility here? I sure do.
A king rules, but in the order of authority demonstrated by the Centurion and praised by Jesus, we see that the greater the power, but more that person realizes they are submitted to a greater authority. He said, āIām a man UNDER authority.ā As kings we are under authority to perform the will of God not only for ourselves but in service to others who will be affected, blessed, made different by this royal work bestowed upon us with the expectation of performance. Same goes for the priest. The priesthood is another heavy responsibility role that shares the broken body and poured blood of Jesus not only to redeem, but to disciple. The world at its worst needs the church at its best.
Both of what I have described relate to that horizontal relationship, but the vertical relationship is greatly important, in fact, without it, the other will be totally ineffective. As kings and priests, we are to worship, adore, and serve the King of kings, and Priest of Priests. It is our duty, and should be our joy, to worship Him.
